The year 2022 is coming to an end. For Zambia and the world, it has been a comparatively better year than the past two years during which the world saw economic, social, and political devastation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time the world saw isolation, social distancing, and disruption of normal activities due to the healthcare scare. The overall number of positive cases have declined significantly, and the world is slowly coming to normal. With this, regular events and conferences are also being conducted across the globe. One of these events is the Forbes-FIN Philanthropy and Leadership roundtable conference. It is an annual roundtable conference in which leaders are visionaries are invited for sharing their opinion on the burning issues across African nations. In the year 2021, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani was invited in the event as an honorary speaker and discussed the significance of leadership in the Healthcare sector. Apart from the roundtable conference, the event also hosts the Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ awards which is a prestigious award presented to those who have made significant and long-term contributions. Forbes recognized the contributions made by Dr. Rajan Mahtani towards redefining the banking sector of Zambia and conferred him with the Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year award 2021. Apart from his contributions to the banking sector, Dr. Rajan Mahtani was also recognized for his philanthropic and charitable contributions such as Prison Fellowship Zambia.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia for the welfare of Zambian inmates. Prison Fellowship works towards providing welfare, transparent criminal justice, fundamental human dignity as well as human rights to the prisoners in Zambia. Prison Fellowship Zambia was recently in news for supporting the latest decision from the Zambian President. On the occasion of Africa Day, President Hakainde Hichilema announced that his government is planning to abolish the death penalty row. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has said that his company Prison Fellowship will provide legal and regulatory support towards this decision.
