On 31st January 2019, a significant achievement was made by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. After years of patience and ethical stance, the case of Portland Cement Zambia was finally won by Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani on this day. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker in Zambia. He is known for his numerous successful businesses within Zambia and outside. Some of his most notable companies in Zambia are Finsbury Investments, Mahtani Group of Companies and Finance Bank Zambia. He is also the legal owner of the Portland Cement Zambia factory which was recently announced at the Court of Appeal. According to the decision by the Court of Appeal judge, Dr. Rajan Mahtani owns 58 percent shares at the Zambezi Portland Cement and is the majority shareholder of the Zambezi Portland Cement factory. On the other hand, Ventriglias owned Ital Terrazzo Limited holds just 42 percent shares at the factory and is the minority shareholder of the Zambezi Portland Cement factory. This shareholding pattern aligns with the original shareholders agreement established in 2007. Based on this decision by the Court of Appeal, it is clear that Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the legal owner of the Zambezi Portland Cement factory.
Another major revelation announced by the Court of Appeal judge was the claims made by Finsbury Investments and made upon the company. On 5th February 2019, Finsbury Investments paid a sum of K 580,000,000 with interest to the court. This payment was made as registration charges for Zambezi Portland Cement and Finsbury Investments followed the order as per the court ruling. At the same time, Finsbury Investments has also claimed a sum of K1 billion with interest, against the entire sum of share capital paid for the Portland Cement Zambia. To justify this claim, Finsbury Investments has shared numerous financial reports from years 2006 and 2007 which have been approved by the Court of Appeal judge. The result of this appeal is expected from the court shortly.
