After the economic and social devastation from Covid-19 pandemic that started in 2019, the world saw significant improvement in the coming years. The year 2022 certainly saw improvement from previous years and ended on a positive note. Several positive news announcements were made during the year and one of them was the announcement from the President of Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema, on the occasion of Africa day, announced that his Government plans to completely abolish the death penalty row. Noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker Dr. Rajan Mahtani was among the first to praise this announcement from the Zambian President. In his interview excerpt with the ‘Mast Newspaper’ Dr. Rajan Mahtani praised Zambian President for making such bold statement which was the need of the hour. Dr. Mahtani also stated that only an individual who respects the ‘right to live’ respects fundamental human rights and respects God will be able to make such a decision. Dr.Rajan Mahtani further stated that his company Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide full legal and regulatory support to ensure that this announcement becomes a reality soon. Prison Fellowship Zambia was established by Dr. Rajan Mahtani more than three decades ago and even before that, Dr. Mahtani was against death penalty. Dr. Mahtani always saw death penalty as an archaic law which is not only inhumane and degrading but also cruel. As such, Dr. Mahtani said that his company Prison Fellowship will ensure all support to the Zambian government towards this decision.
