Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman and philanthropist in Zambia. Recently, Dr. Rajan Mahtani was awarded with one of the most prestigious and regarded business awards in Africa. For his significant contributions towards the banking sector of Zambia, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani was awarded with the Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ 2021 award. The award ceremony was a part of the annual Forbes-FIN philanthropy and leadership roundtable conference. The conference is usually held at New York. However, this year’s roundtable conference as well as the award ceremony was held online as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Despite this pandemic, there was no dearth of enthusiasm within the event. Several top personalities and business people graced this event including members from international business communities, entrepreneurs, policy makers, opinion leaders, politicians, religious leaders, media partners as well as international investors.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani received the ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award for his significant contributions towards banking sector and redefining it. Dr. Mahtani is the owner of several top businesses across Zambia and Africa, including Mahtani Group and Finsbury Investments. The company Mahtani Group was established in the year 1981 and since then, it became one of the top companies in Zambia as well as Africa. The company expanded to numerous sectors including agriculture, real estate, energy, mining and several others. The conglomerate has been contributing significantly towards these sectors by redefining them and providing economic and social opportunities such as employment, improvement of society, economy as well as overall sector.
Apart from his business contributions, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is also known for his philanthropic and charitable contributions. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the owner and founder of Prison Fellowship Zambia, a program affiliated to PFI (Prison Fellowship International) which focusses on the welfare and fair criminal justice procedures for inmates, ex-inmates as well as their families. Similarly, Dr. Rajan Mahtani also founded the Stephen Malama award and scholarship for top law graduates in Zambia.
