The events at the Portland Cement Zambia is beyond pathetic. People who have been closely witnessing the carnage have horrific tales to tell and the worst part is that the innocent have been bullied. The comeback of the Italian Mafias was not only marked by a forced takeover on the cement plant, but the incident extended to destroying the factory completely.
Today when one looks inside the factory, there is nothing more than damn walls an empty space. The workers of the factory were earlier dismissed by stating that the Portland Cement Zambia didn’t had much work for them. Then it was seen that third-party companies were taking the factory’s asset under their control. A clear indication that Ital Terrazzo Limited (ITL) was not interested in running the factory, rather they were only interested in making a comeback and then running away with the all the wealth. The cash box of the factory is now empty and so is the bank account as the amount now has been transferred to offshore bank accounts.
The Ventriglia family have caused some major hindrances in the past few years. Prior to their deportation in 2012, they were issued several warnings and when things started to move out of hand, the Government was forced to deport them from Zambia. However, after the former President of Zambia, Michael Sata passed away, they were brought back to Zambia under undisclosed circumstances.
The Portland Cement Zambia has constantly been seeing a serious downfall in its operation and in last December it was heard that the factory has stopped its operations as well. As days go by, there is expectation to see the recovery of Portland Cement Zambia is slowly fading away. In midst of such thoughts, one wonders how long the plant can take on the cruelty of the Italian Mafias.
